best seafood restaurants in london
I once went to a place in Astoria and had some of the best clam chowder ever! It was The Ship Inn Restaurant & Family Pub and it’s right on the coast. Also try the fish and chips as they are experts at that!
Newport was another place I went to on our trip. And basically anyplace you try is going to have some great seafood to offer. I’m pretty sure it was the Kam Meng Seafood Restaurant at 837 SW Bay Blvd. in Newport. We had some great seafood there and it overlooks the harbor! Make sure you get there in the afternoon and make enough time to go watch the sea lion lounging on the pier. They are really something to watch!
Enjoy
Rolling along we ordered our mains which were Bavette bordelaise with pommes coq d’or, Sea Bass with roasted fennel and tomatoes, and a seafood thermidor. The beef won the popularity vote as it was ordered by half our table. The quality and the tender texture of the beef was coveted by all that ordered it. The roasted sea bass was also cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful together with the caramelised fennel and cherry tomatoes. Only I was slightly disappointed with my seafood thermidor, probably because I hadn’t had a thermidor before and did not know what to expect. The creamy pot of baked seafood arrived piping hot at the table and was lathered in a bit too much cream for my liking. The thick sauce also camouflaged the flavours of the individual seafood elements in the dish.
You think I would have learned my lesson about ordering too much food after my visit to the Seafood restaurant but like a goldfish I made the same mistake again at St Petrocs! After 2 courses we were filled to the brim and we still had one more course to battle through. We ordered the Paris Brest and Pear and almond tart to finish and both were delicious! The Paris Brest choux pastry was so light and it’s chocolate cream filling and warm chocolate sauce were very decadent. The pear and almond tart was my favourite. The filling was so moist and fruity and not overly sweet.
The 3 course menu at St. Petrocs was £17.50. Including a glass of house wine, coffee and tip our final bill came to £22 per person.
